Week 29 – Dr. Seuss – Sugarplum Nannies

 

This week we will learn all about Dr. Seuss!

CRAFTS

HANDPRINT FISHES

SUPPLIES

  • CONSTRUCTION PAPER

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Trace child’s hands on 4 different coloured papers (1 being blue
and 1 red).
2. Then, cut them out and glue them onto the 5th paper as shown
in picture.
3. Draw the fish faces and write the saying from the book: ‘One
fish, Two fish, Red fish, Blue fish’
This craft is great for children of all ages (even infants) because
you can do most of the work using just their little handprints –
for older children, they can trace their own hands!

INSTRUCTIONS

A small canvas can be purchased at the dollar store, but if that is
not an option, you can also use a white sheet of paper (the sturdier,
the better)
1. Let the children paint the canvas! Set out to dry.
2. While paint is drying, look through your favorite Dr. Seuss book
to find your favorite quote! Once paint is dry, use the permanent
marker to write the quote on the painted canvas!

CAT IN THE HAT TOSS

SUPPLIES

  • STYROFOAM CUP
  • RED PAINT/RED
  • SHARPIE

  • COTTON BALLS / POM POMS

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Add some red stripes to the white Styrofoam cup with either
paint or a sharpie / marker!
2. Use your red & white cotton balls (or any other small balls
you have) to toss into the cup!
This is a great fine motor activity for all ages! Feel free to make
a supersized version with a large poster paper rolled into a
cylinder shape!

HOP ON POP

SUPPLIES

  • CONSTRUCTION PAPER

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cut out different shapes from all the different coloured
construction paper.
2. Tape the cut-out shapes onto the floor so that they don’t
move and slide easily.
3. Call out a colour or shape for the children to HOP on.
This is such a fun way for children to learn. Adjust it to what
your child is learning. Instead of colours & shapes you could
do letters, numbers, time, anything!

CAT IN THE HAT STACKING CHALLENGE

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut squares just a bit larger than the size of cups.
2. Set out the stacks of paper and cups.
3. Invite the child to stack the hats as high as they can before
they topple!

SUPPLIES

  • SKEWER STICKS

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cut up bananas and strawberries in thin slices as shown
in picture.
2. Start off by sliding the marshmallow down the skewer
first. Followed by a banana slice, strawberry slice, etc., topping
it off with the tip of the strawberry to look like a hat top.
3. You can draw the face on with a toothpick dipped in food
colouring! Enjoy!

1. Go to your local library, find the Dr. Seuss books and
read them all! These books are perfect for all ages because
they are fun, silly and have lots of different colors

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cut out the sheeps face and legs from black construction paper.
2. Glue the legs on the green construction paper.
3. Have the child make a bunch of white fingerprints to form the
sheeps body.
4. Glue the sheeps face on, and then add the googly eyes to finish!

CORN ON THE COB

1. Cut a corn cob out of yellow paper.
2. Cut the husks out of green paper and glue them behind the corn.
3. Glue pieces of cheerios all over the corn to finish.
4. Make more to make a “field of corn”!

1. Fill a large bin with kernels.
2. Place the farm toys and some blocks to build a fence.
3. Lay out some spoons and scoops and let the child explore

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Fill one bin with chocolate cake mix, pour small amounts of
water until you get the desired consistency to act as the mud.
2. Place the animals in the “mud”.
3. Set up another bin next to the mud pile, with water and soap.
4. Have the child clean their farm animals with soapy water and
a toothbrush!

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Mix 2 tablespoons of cream cheese in a bowl with 2 drops
of red food coloring.
2. Spread the cream cheese on the bagel.
3. Cut a nose and 2 ears from the strawberry.
4. Place the strawberry nose over the hole and place the ears
on top of the bagel.
5. Use 2 blueberries for the eyes and 2 sprinkles for
the nostrils Enjoy!

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Use a fork to dip into brown paint, and drag the fork all around
in a circle to create the bear’s fur.
2. Cut out ears from brown paper, and a nose from black paper.
3. Glue the ears, nose, and googly eyes to finish the bear!

1. Cut out long brown rectangles to act as the log and glue them on
the white paper.
2. Crumple a large piece of foil, then dip into the red and yellow
paint and stamp them on the paper to make the fire flames.
3. Ask the child what color red and yellow make when they are
mixed!

2. Fill the bin with water, then place the fish in the water.
3. Use the skewer as a fishing rod and catch all the fish!

2. Punch 1 hole on each toilet paper roll and tie the string on.
